What's Next for the Palestinian United Nations Strategy ?

With the Palestinian Authority's application to the United Nations Security Council for full membership and what appears to be an impending US veto, in the transcript and video below Mouin Rabbani discusses the next steps.

Mouin Rabbani

In terms of what to expect now, I think it is very much an open question. The Security Council will begin consideration of the Palestinian application for full membership on Monday, but it is unclear how long those deliberations are going to take. It is equally unclear what the Palestinians are going to do when that application is inevitably rejected as a result of either a US veto or successful US bullying of other council members to vote against this application.

The next things to look at are whether and how the Palestinians go to the General Assembly and also how they are going to respond to the latest Quartet statement. If you look at the Quartet statement, I think it is fair to describe it as considerably worse than many of its awful predecessors in the sense that the current Quartet statement says virtually nothing about anything except trying to put in place another bogus process of proposals within three months, and framework agreement within a year, and peace and life for a thousand years by the end of 2012. Been there, done that several hundred times.

The point here is that the Quartet, which was basically established by the Bush administration as a substitute for the international community, was interestingly enough incapable of agreeing on terms of reference for yet another peace process. The basic reason it was unable to do so was because Washington insisted on inserting the most extreme Israeli preconditions for diplomacy into the Quartet statement and, in doing so, met resistance from the Europeans and, it seems, outright rejection from the Russians. Apart from their membership in the Quartet, the Russians have never really taken its directives all that seriously. Washington, on the one hand, rejected inserting anything about a settlement freeze into the Quartet statement basically imposing settlement construction as part of any peace process. At the same time, they insisted on inserting recognition of Israel as a Jewish State as part of the Quartet’s terms of reference. When that failed, the Quartet could do nothing more than come up with a rather lame excuse for yet another process.

I think this is likely to push the Palestinians even further down the path of internationalization. Here we see what can only be described as the extremism which has taken hold in Washington having a positive impact on the development of an alternative Palestinian strategy.

New Developments on Palestinian Prisoners' .....

Hunger Strike - Action Needed + Solidarity with California, US Prison Hunger Strikers

Solidarity with Palestinian prisoners is more urgent than ever;
.
Since the announcement of Palestinian prisoners' hunger strike against the isolation of Ahmad Sa'adat and all other prisoners held in solitary confinement, and against torture and humiliation for prisoners and their families and visitors, Israeli prison officials have stepped up their threats against Palestinian prisoners participating in the hunger strike.

The strike begins today, Tuesday, September 27. The Israeli Minister of Internal Security, at a meeting in Ramon and Naqab Prisons, has threatened to escalate repression against prisoners, threatening to move all prisoners participating in the hunger strike into isolation and solitary confinement, and to forcibly transfer those prisoners to other prisons in the occupation prison system. Prisoners are frequently transferred by occupation forces in an attempt to break up social bonds and disrupt organizing against prison repression.

For decades, Palestinian prisoners have engaged in hunger strikes to demand - and win - their rights, putting their bodies on the line once more to demand the freedom and dignity of themselves, their people, their homeland and their nation. Palestinian prisoners have announced that they will not be moved from their course by the threats of the occupiers. Prisoners' representatives have confirmed that Sa'adat and fellow isolated leader Jamal Abu al-Haija, in isolation with Sa'adat, will join in the strike themselves.

Furthermore, prisoners announced that they will reject all prison orders, refusing to wear uniforms, stand up for daily counts, or accept food. The situation is more urgent than ever as prisoners begin their strike. The Campaign to Free Ahmad Sa'adat calls upon all solidarity, international justice and human rights groups and organizations to join us to demand freedom, dignity and justice for Palestinian prisoners.

TAKE ACTION TO SUPPORT AHMAD SA'ADAT AND ALL PALESTINIAN PRISONERS!

1. Picket, protest or call the Israeli embassy or consulate in your location and demand the immediate freedom of Ahmad Sa'adat and all Palestinian political prisoners. Make it clear that you support the demands of Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike!

2. Distribute the free downloadable Campaign to Free Ahmad Sa'adat flyer in your community at local events.

3. Write to the International Committee of the Red Cross and other human rights organizations to exercise their responsibilities and act swiftly to demand that the Israelis ensure that Ahmad Sa'adat and all Palestinian prisoners are freed from punitive isolation. Email the ICRC, whose humanitarian mission includes monitoring the conditions of prisoners, at jerusalem.jer@icrc.org, and inform them about the urgent situation of Ahmad Sa'adat.

4. Email the Campaign to Free Ahmad Sa'adat at info@freeahmadsaadat.org with announcements, reports and information about your local events, activities and flyer distributions.

The Campaign to Free Ahmad Sa'adat expresses its deepest solidarity with the prisoners on hunger strike in Pelican Bay, California, the United StatesThese prisoners, inside the racist and brutal US prison system, have also stood together on hunger strike to demand an end to abuse and the use of isolation against prisoners, particularly long-term isolation, to demand proper food, and an end to torture and abuse. They ended their strike in July 2011 after receiving assurances that their demands would be met - however, this has not happened, and prisoners have in fact been punished and further repressed for participating in the strike. The prisoners in California have resumed their hunger strike on Monday, September 26, 2011.

Across the world, prisoners stand on hunger strike, demanding dignity and justice. The Campaign to Free Ahmad Sa'adat salutes the California hunger strikers, expresses our deepest solidarity, and joins in their demands for dignity and justice. We also note the great leaders and great struggles that have emerged from the racist dungeons of U.S. prisons, from Attica to Soledad. The Campaign to Free Ahmad Sa'adat salutes the political prisoners in U.S. jails and the Guantanamo torture camp - and all jails in the world - including Mumia Abu-Jamal, Leonard Peltier, Ghassan Elashi, and hundreds more, and demands their freedom.

Abbas: Don't budge to American pressure

September 27 2011 - 10:51 PM
By Khalid Amayreh

In a new brazen provocation that flies in the face of everyone and anyone wishing to retain a glimmer of hope for peace in this  part  of  the world, Israel has announced  plans  to build more than a thousand settler units in occupied Arab land near Bethlehem .

The announcement is considered a real insult to the entire international community, whose representatives at the UN have just been affronted  with a new dose of Benyamin Netanyahu's lies about Israel's desire for  peace.

It is an insult to the Quartet (US, EU, Russia , and UN)  which only a few days ago announced plans for the resumption of so-called peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

It is specifically an insult to America, which Israel and  American Jews have flushed down history's toilet. The Obama administration, which shakes in fear at the very thought of upsetting Israel, firmly opposed the Palestinian bid to gain UN membership, arguing that Palestinian statehood could only be achieved through negotiations.

Needless to say, the Israeli affront should be quite embarrassing for American officials. However, in order for one to be embarrassed, one would have to have at least a semblance of honor, dignity and rectitude,  qualities that most American  politicians lost a long time ago.

In any case, one can't give what one doesn't possess.

True, the American State Department has issued statements critical of the Israeli decision. However, one doesn't have to have a high IQ to realize that such idle statements are disingenuous, meaningless, and have no real significance.

Indeed, hundreds of such statements had been issued, but Israel had always had its way, and the political whores of Washington had to shut up, because otherwise, they would be fired, even in a disgraceful manner. Remember Andrew Young.!!!

Now, how will PA President Mahmoud Abbas relate to the recommendation of the Quartet to resume talks between an arrogant Israel and weak PA, reduced to a vanquished supplicant that must beg even  the oxygen of life from Israel?

Many Palestinians have been unduly carried away by the euphoria of the Abbas's speech at the UN General Assembly. The feeling, though genuine and understandable given decades of unrelenting Palestinian suffering, is never the less premature and certainly disproportionately exaggerated.

In the final analysis, speeches alone, even eloquent speeches,   don't liberate a homeland and don't free a people from the nefarious stranglehold of the most evil and Nazi-minded foreign military occupation in history.

The Israeli announcement of plans to build more settlements is a real vindication of those Palestinians who reacted to Abbas's speech with a degree of reservation and circumspection, even suspicion.

It is hoped  that with  this latest  deliberate affront  by the Zio-Nazi government of Benyamin Netanyahu, and with the utter failure of the Obama administration  to  do anything about  it -apart from issuing  tired and disingenuous  statements that we  have heard ad nauseam- the Palestinian leadership will pay no attention to American assurances or  promises. After all, all these have proven to be utterly mendacious and disingenuous.

Hence, Abbas must free himself and his leadership from the vulnerability to be deceived, cajoled and mesmerized by America's lies.

If he doesn't, however, and "Haleema returns to her old habbit," as the Palestinian adage goes, then I am afraid Abbas will lose esteem, stature and support among most Palestinians.

He must not agree to resume talks with this manifestly criminal government of Israel. This government doesn't want peace and anyone thinking otherwise is either drunk, or daydreaming or both.

How could Israel be truly seeking peace when the Zionist entity continues to build settlements on occupied land and transfer hundreds of thousands of its citizens to live on land that belongs to other people?

Israel claims that the occupied land of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza is a disputed territory. Well, then why does Israel keep devouring the "disputed" piece of cheese to the point that very little of it is left anyway?

In light, there can be no peace with this Nazi-like entity.

Finally, the Israeli settlement expansion affront is also an insult to the new rulers of Egypt who only recently reasserted their commitment to the Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty of 1979.

It is an insult because none of that hapless treaty's terms stipulate that Israel has a carte blanch to steal and colonize Palestinian land in the West Bank.

This means that the Egyptian government has a legitimate right, even a national and Islamic duty,  to abrogate or at least stop observing commitments stipulated under that treaty.

In any case, the Egyptian people and other Arab peoples everywhere will soon force their leaders to put an end the notorious and disgraceful discourse of complacency vis-à-vis the Zionist regime.

Complacency toward Israel can really be fatal and disastrous. Israel is a definitive malignancy which if not eradicated will metastasize everywhere, sowing death and decay.

Identified Mavi Marmara perpetrators are they already hiding in United States ?

The PalestineFreeVoice / Monday September 26 2011, 11:27 - PM EST.

A Turkish newspaper, SABA, published today names and photos of the Israeli terrorists who participated in the attack on the Turkish aid - ship Mavi Marmara. After an extensive investigation, the Turkish government has released names of the Israeli terrorists who seized, boarded, killed ( 9 ) and wounded (29) passengers on the ships journey in international waters outside the coast of Gaza.

After that the Turkish intelligence demanded information from Israeli officials regarding the identity of Israeli state-terrorists involved in the deadly raid on the Turkish mother ship, the Israelis have arrogantly refused to release any information.

The Turkish government have requested an apology from the Israelis, as well as compensation to the victims families, relatives of the murdered and the wounded, including compensation for property damage and theft on board Mavi Marmara. Also demanding an end to the criminal blockade on Gaza. After the Israelis refusal, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish Prime Minister warned the Israelis, that the state of  Turkey now would pursue criminal charges against the individuals who participated in the savage slaughter of unarmed human rights activists, on board the Turkish aid-ship Mavi Marmara.

The Turkish Intelligence Service as well as international agencies have pursued the investigation: the image hunt and the identification, meticulously combing video and photographic evidence through out the world media, including diligent search through many thousand of Facebook and Twitter accounts. Turkish citizens with knowledge of  Hebrew were vital in following the leads throughout Israeli social media sites, and the surviving passengers as well as the crew on board the Mavi Marmara also participated to uncover vital information.

Obama's UN speech is unjust, immoral and dishonest

September 23  2011 - 09:39 PM

By Khalid Amayreh in occupied Jerusalem

President Obama's speech at the United Nation's General Assembly was probably appropriate for an opportunistic politician who sacrifices honesty, morality, and basic ethics for the sake of making some   momentary profit here or there. But it was by all means inappropriate, to say the least, for a statesman, let alone the President of the strongest nation on earth.

Obama's excessive praise of Israel caricatured an insecure president that fears telling the truth, a leader that shakes at the very thought of uttering the "wrong words" even when these wrong words happen to represent the heart, soul and essence of the truth.

In his speech, Obama  never uttered a single word about the ever expanding  Jewish settlements in  occupied Palestine, the  main  reason for  what has become the near impossibility of reaching any reasonable  settlement of  the  enduring  conflict.

He readily reiterated Israeli propaganda lies about Arabs and Muslims seeking Israel's destructions but carefully avoided Israel's consistent policy of aggression, occupation and lebensraum.

He utterly failed to mention that peace, real peace, has never been on Israel's agenda because a peace-loving country doesn't build hundreds of hateful colonies on occupied land, nor does transfer hundreds of thousands of its citizens to live on land that belongs to another people.

Likewise, he ignored the imposing fact of venomous racism in Israel where the bulk of the Israeli Jewish society has come to view non-Jews in general as virtual subhuman beings or virtual animals for no other reason than the fact that these people happen to be non-members of the Chosen People or the Master Race.

I'm quite convinced that Obama's failure to tell the truth is not imputed in any way to ignorance, misinformation or lack of information.   Obama knows the truth about Israel quite well. However, he seems to utterly lack the moral  fabric and  strong character to call the  spade a spade due  to the Zionist Jewish stranglehold paralyzing his administration, Congress and U.S. foreign policy as, indeed, testified by a number  of  American intellectuals, including at least one former President.

I hesitate to use the term "political whore" in reference to Obama's moral downfall. However, If I were to testify before the "court of history" where every iota of truth counts and spin doesn't exist, I most probably would find it unconscionable to resort to euphemisms.

The main reason for this moral turpitude, that is to put it quite mildly, has every thing to do with Jewish money and Jewish power in the U.S, and has absolutely nothing to do with any truth on Israel's side.

Israel after all can be so honestly and so justifiably considered a crime against humanity. Israel, by sheer brutality and mendacity, stole the country of another people, killed untold numbers of these people, destroyed their homes and towns, bulldozed their fields and orchards and then expelled them to the four winds. How can such a country possibly have a shred of morality or legitimacy, probably with the exception of the morality of the fait accompli?

Like his predecessors, President Obama is not capable of making any worthy contribution to true peace making in the Middle East. True peace-making requires honesty, first and foremost, an ingredient Obama lacks rather conspicuously.

Hence, it is futile for the international community, especially for the Arabs and Muslims of the world, to rely on the American administration for achieving a just and durable peace in occupied Palestine.

In addition to honesty, Obama also lacks the courage to say or do anything that would fail to satisfy the fascist leaders of the Zionist regime, who shamelessly claim to seek peace with their Palestinian victims while continuing to destroy the latter's homes, steal their land and burn their mosques.

The conspicuous absence in Obama's speech of any mention or even allusion to the Zionist Jewish lebensraum policy in the West Bank, especially in occupied Arab East Jerusalem, portrays a president that is dithering, fretting and ranting about virtually nothing. His attempt to play the role of moral teacher and world leader whose words carry true moral weight is nothing less than a futile exercise in futility and cheap political hucksterism.

With all honesty and bitterness, such a leader won't be able to make peace in the Middle East even if he remains at the White House fifty more years. What is the point of being a president when one betrays his conscience in order to please and appease the forces of evil and pressure groups around him?

As to the Palestinians, they must realize that they have committed an act of self-deception if not self-destruction when they accepted the United States as a sole honest broker of the so-called peace process.

Successive U.S. administrations played so brazenly, so brashly and so shamelessly, the role of Israel's protector, defender, and lawyer regardless of whatever Israel did or didn't,  a policy that  is  likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

On many occasions, American peace envoys, many of whom fanatical Zionists, displayed stands and attitudes that were far more extremists than those displayed even by Israeli negotiators. So for heaven's sake, how could a shamelessly Zionist America, biased to the core in Israel's favor, be any thing like an honest broker? This is nothing less than fornication with language.

In light, the Palestinian people should resign to the fact that the Arab-Israeli conflict has become really unsolvable due to the present political and demographic facts.

But history, especially in this part of the world, doesn’t reach its end with the appearance or disappearance of Barack Obama nor, indeed, with his masters in occupied Palestine.

I am not going to indulge in prognostication or wishful thinking about the future. However, it must be understood by all that Israel bears full responsibility for the disappearance of all peace chances in this region.

This means that Israel alone bears responsibility for whatever comes next.

The UN approach killed the Palestinian reconciliation !

.

( Part 7 in a series.)

.
September 20, 2011 - 11:41 PM

By Hiyam Noir and Fadwa Nassar

More and more voices speak out against the Palestinian diplomatic approach penned down by PLO and the Ramallah Authority for the UN recognition of a Palestinian State, a part of the Palestinian nation occupied by the Zionists. Various arguments, including legal and policy disputes, are put forward to reject and denounce the initiative proposed by the ruling circles of the Ramallah Authority.

News-media columnists and academic personalities, associations and movements, political parties and organizations, insist on one or more arguments to reject the initiative of the Ramallah Authority, accusing it of abandoning especially the way of principal Palestinian claims, such as the liberation of Palestine and the right of return for refugees, but also acknowledging the lack of transparency about the purpose of the approach:

That of  a Palestinian state, what for and for who?

Nevertheless,the content of the arguments remains one of the most serious aspects of this process, that of setting aside or even slaying the Palestinian reconciliation process, a measure that remains until this moment, of utmost importance to be addressed by the Zionists and their safe and popular variety of institutions;

The situation in the city of al-Quds, threatened by Judaization,(ethno-religious cleansing), is raising the worst of fears, because the internal-Palestinian reconciliation is not adopted on an open and genuine basis. The same situation persist in the West Bank, where the squatters-settlers,the executive arm of the Zionist establishment, without restrain continue its rampant aggression against the Palestinians, and - in Gaza, where the Palestinian society including the exiled 48 Palestinians also live in a bitter state of disappointment, marked by the division.

Too late, just before heading on to the UN, the Ramallah authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas made effortless attempts to unify Palestinian ranks in his approach. However as expected, it was only empty rhetoric about various moves, taken by the representative of Fateh, in favor of reconciliation.

The hugs at the opening of a well-choreographed show in Cairo, containing surprisingly plenty of promises and even a timetable for the reconciliation of the Palestinian people, but not around the UN approach, however regardless what one perhaps had hoped, a confrontation of Zionists actions in the field, also direct attention to public organization of Palestinian political life (including elections) to be held in the territories of the Ramallah Authority.

This show in Cairo under the auspices of the Arab revolution, included participants of Egyptian people who brought forth the down-fall of Hosni Mubarak, an inveterate supporter of internal Palestinian division.

The quarter of Mahmoud Abbas have successfully used the PR - show in Cairo to hide their policy on poverty, maintained intact inside a total blur to obscure their real agenda at the UN, a coup to prevent the key stakeholders, the Palestinians, to understand the challenge;

For several months subsequently, the direction of the Ramallah Authority has been counterfeited, pretending a refusal of the American-Zionist approach, to make us believe them, presenting itself as a defender of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian people.

And so well - timed arrived several brief statements from the "UN", without consistence followed, and so often - contradictory:

We would like to know;

Who are the members of the brain trust that controls the United Nations ?  And, in regards to the fate of the Palestinian people, what is the agenda of the fiduciaries? The UN alliance - the independent states, founded in 1945 to promote peace and security, and economic development trough-out our injured and maltreated mother earth?

We presume there is a predisposition of UN, we would like to know, so tell us, what is your sway - what are the directives? It is important to us, because these factors will to a large extent determine the outcome. So come on, tell us what are the fundamental changes that can be expected on the ground ? What are the trade-offs, and what are the concessions to be made? What type of Palestinian state do you have in mind ? A sovereign political power - or a province which is governed, administrated and ruled - the control exercised by a foreign empire?

The error, unfairly attributed to bad judgment, ignorance and inattention of Palestinian organizations opposed to the approach in UN, intended to give Carte Blanche, complete discretion, without consideration in Cairo - to Mahmoud Abbas.Meanwhile the promised release of the Palestinian resistance and their families held captive in the dungeons of the Ramallah Authority, noticeable figures participating in internal Palestinian talks, did not accomplish anything in this regard. Except for a few promotional releases of detainees that took place throughout the course of the festival, which followed the month of Ramadan.

Even at this level, the security services of the Ramallah Authority have not wavered:
.
No response to the requests from Hamas, throughout the course of Hamas Ramadan festival days. The response to Hamas was a "presidential -pardon", a move made to insult, to gain a tactical end, not meant to stand up in compassion,in devotion to a moral obligation, the necessary need and recognition of releasing political detainees, the Palestinian resistance.

Simultaneously, the Palestinian resistance demanded the end to security collaboration with the Palestinian enemy and occupation forces, however it never was brought to an end.The Palestinian resistance, including their families, who is fighting for national liberty - without a stop in the activities of security collaboration, was prosecuted either by the Zionists, or by the Ramallah Authority.

The case of the Islamic Jihad leader, Bassam Saadi, is more eloquent;

Detained by the Zionists, for almost a decade, he was released earlier this year. Hence, then he was arrested again, together with several Palestinian politicians, including Hussam Khadr - this arrest operation occurred after the announcement of the Palestinian agreement. Yet, the security services of the Ramallah Authority continued its dirty work, threatening Hussam Khadr’s family and in the recent past, arrested Mahmoud Saadi, the leader of Islamic Jihad in the Jenin refuge camp, and also arrested were close relatives of Bassam Saadi.
.
And still, the Zionists and the security services of the Ramallah Authority continue to share the task of containing those who meriting all respect, honorable men and women, the Palestinian resistance, who oppose the Zionist occupation and act with composure in this direction.

Beyond security cooperation, the service coordination of Abbas-Fayyad and the Zionists, which is a true modulated language in describing de facto;

Collaboration with the enemy.

It does not appear that Ramallah Authority has invented any course of action to combat the hordes of squatters-settlers,the agitators of the Zionist enterprise, to protect the Palestinian population who is threatened in its very existence.Neither the enabling of Maqdisi, to force-off the Judaizing of their town, moreover we can not find any concrete measures taken to end the illegal blockade against Gaza, nor can we find a participation by the Ramallah Authority in the nation’s domestic and international campaign to de-legitimize the Zionist entity, or any other concrete moves that would give life to a Palestinian reconciliation does not carry enactments.

Only a few months after that Mahmoud Abbas managed to gain unrestrained control of his questionable maneuvers, several Palestinian organizations included in the struggle for liberation, begin to doubt and denounce the astounding UN procedures, fearing for the outcome. At the beginning,  the probable reason was lack of transparency of the Ramallah Authority, but above all, the absence of political strategy, as indeed denounced in the latest report of the International Institution of the Al-Quds, which has pointed out the inability of Palestinian organizations, to develop a strategy to preserve the Arab identity or protect its  people in the city of Al-Quds.

The Palestinian organizations have more or less blessed the show in Cairo and the process of the UN, without to comprehend the nature or the real meaning, merely giving confidence and hope, trusting the empty words of the Ramallah Authority. Now the political program which the Ramallah authority had proposed for consideration, to seal the deal the Palestinians remain in the hands of an anonymous UN commission, yet another hurdle, ensnared in the mine-field to respond to a piece-meal,the vague statements of the team  - "UN".

It is evident that Palestinian organizations have been slow to respond at this moment, in fear of accusing the Ramallah Authority officials and their “infantry” to play the game of the enemy, in particular since they had not realized all the hidden issues of this approach.

But now, while the Palestinians are mobilized for the "recognition" -  or rather - what will  the media suggests in its statements, and its press releases, in its analyses and articles in this regard ?

It is very, very puzzling – it confuses, and it need to be clarified:

Why such a long delay?

Why wait for the response of the UN procedures?

Why was a media - battle - campaign never organized?

It would have gathered a mass:

to protect and prevent the Judaization of al-Quds and the West Bank.

to break the illegal blockade against Gaza.

to prevent the Zionist colonization of al-Naqab.

to release the Palestinian prisoners.

to assert the inalienable rights of the refugees.

Why was the progress of the battle for the liberation of Palestine, halted ?
